We started a new Project Based Learning Unit this week on Light Reflecting. To start off the unit, we showed students in infamous blue/black or white/gold dress as an entry event. This allowed students to understand that some people see different colors. Students then used the Driving Question, "How can we make everyday activities easier for people with Color Vision Deficiency?", and developed their Need to Knows. During our ELA stations, students are investigating their NTK to try to figure out the answers. Any answers they can't find, we have a special presenter, Dr. Needleman that will help the students with the information. Along with investigations, students are involved in Guiding Reading and Writing small group instruction based on light reflection and colorblindness. After gaining all this knowledge on Light Energy and Colorblindness, this upcoming week, students will work collaborately to pinpoint one everyday activity and solution for their end product. Along with their collaborative project, each student is in the middle of writing a 3-4 paragraph paper that answers the Driving Question. We are busy bees in 4th grade and learning a lot!
Along with starting a new PBL unit, I can't not mention the spectacular job our students did in the optics play! They seemed like professionals up there on stage! The play was part of this PBL unit on Light Energy and helped students understand how the eye works a little better. And of course made sure my eyes were working properly! :)

Over the past few weeks, the students have been doing a great job reflecting on themselves as a learner. Looking at different academic and work habit categories, each student developed their strengths and areas they want to work on for next trimester. This information was then communicated to parents through Student Led Conferences. Students did an amazing job articulating everything they have been working on and will continue to work on. Any feedback regarding Student Led Conferences would be helpful from parents. We are always reflecting ourselves and want to continue to make Student Led Conferences a great experience for all.
