As our students swim through the last few chapters of Shark Lady, a Biography of Eugenie Clark, we are reminded of how she was a helpful member of her community. Just as Eugenie used her skills and interests to explore, our students are naming their skills and interests in their resume writing to be helpful members of our school community. Next week, we will finalize our resumes and go on formal job interviews with Mr. Harrington. Not all students will have a job, but as we discussed in class, next trimester it encourages students to work harder and update their resume with more skills they have developed. Happy job hunting! In math, students have finished the first part of Module 1-Place Value and will be tested on this information Wednesday, October 5th. Just a reminder to complete your math homework and remember your name. We had a lot of no name homeworks this week. :( |

Thank you for coming out to our classroom for Curriculum Night. It's always nice to meet everyone and share some news from our class in person.
Our students have been very busy placing number disks on their place value charts in math. This week, we worked on comparing numbers and adding more and less. Next week, students will receive a study guide for the Mid-Module. We plan to go over the Mid-Module Study Guide together and students will be tested on this information the first week in October.
The Ninja Warrior writing pieces came out fantastic! Students were able to identify themselves as either a contestant, audience member, or commentator. After using qualities from our brainstorming, our writing consisted of strengths each student possesses and also qualities they would like to work toward.
Another great full week of school under our belts. Keep up the GREAT effort 4th graders!

This past week we jumped into the 2nd step curriculum and added a few very important words to our word wall. Empathy, assertive, contribution just to name a few. As a class, we are working hard at naming our strengths and areas that we can improve on with our Ninja Warrior writing. Completing a few collaborative activities this week helped us reflect and learn how to work together to use our voices in a positive way.
In math, we are continuing our place value unit and have started to use the module books. Under "resources", you will find links to each module if your child forgets his or her homework. Just be sure to print the page you need otherwise you will print the whole module by mistake. It has happened. Oops!
We are deep into our guided reading books, Shark Lady and learning what the main character, Eugenie Clark contributed to her community as well as focusing on comprehension and discussions revolving around the book.
Happy Learning!

We've been in fourth grade for 6 days and have accomplished so much already. Our Class Norms (or rules) and Group Norms have been created by the students and ELA and Math have begun.
Our first Driving Question: As an individual, what can I contribute to become a valuable member of my classroom community?
Math-Last week, we worked on Place Value to refresh our memories before we work in our first Place Value Module. This upcoming week, you will see a problem set (class work) and homework from the Module come home. Use the problem set as a reference (if needed) as you complete the homework.
Writing-We have developed our strengths (Ninja Warrior style) and areas that we want to work on to become a valuable part of the classroom community.
Reading-Our brains are already "thinking about our thinking" using sticky notes to capture important Character Traits and evidence of Theme while we read and discuss a few stories that have very important lessons.
We are off to a great start! Happy Learning and Exploring!
