2/6-2/10
We have had a busy few weeks and the students have been so excited by all of the new information they have learned!
In ELA, we finished our unit on animals interacting in their ecosystems. The students learned how food chains work, predator/prey relationships and animal adaptations They demonstrated their knowledge by creating a realistic fiction story about their animal adapting to their environment in the Hudson Valley. We focused on the strategy of "show don't tell" to describe how the animals moved around their ecosystem. The students gave each other helpful feedback to improve their stories. Thank you to those parents who assisted to type their child's intricate story. We are now in the middle of our unit about colonial life. The students are working in groups to design a way to teach people about an aspect of colonial life of their preferance during our colonial day on Thursday February 16th. We hope some of you can attend!
In math, we finished our unit on long multiplication and long division using the standard algorithm and in word problems. We encourage that your child continues to review their multiplication and division facts to maintain their fluency and accuracy. There are critical skills to master in fourth grade. We are now in the middle of a unit about measuring angles and different types of lines. The students love using protractors to measure and draw angles! Reminder, there will be a mid-module math test next Tuesday and the students can use their study guides to assist them to prepare.
As a reminder, we will also be having a small Valentines celebration next week. If you would like to send in Valentines, please ensure each child will receive one.
Thank you again for your continued support!
